On June 18, 2011 we had a great time being a part of Jillian & Richard’s wedding day…and what a party it was!  Surrounded by family and friends, the couple wed at Saint Alosius and reception was held at The Willard.  Jillian and Richard, along with their bridal party, kept each other laughing the entire day!  It was a beautiful wedding – we especially loved Jillian’s use of the “something blue” in her shoes and entire color theme.

Michael Bennett Kress Photography was the photographer for their wedding day.  You can see his work from the wedding here.

Lauren & Barrett’s wedding encompassed all of the special touches only Maryland has to offer..complete with some of the best crab cakes we’ve ever had! The Gibson Island Club was the perfect outdoor venue to spend a gorgeous afternoon on the bay…we were lucky to finally have a break from the rain! Their wedding was one big party with friends and family dancing the night away with The Voltage Brothers. We had an amazing time contributing to Lauren & Barrett’s special day and being a part of their celebration.

Michael Bennett Kress Photography was there to capture their wedding and also engagement session this past summer in Annapolis.  We’ve included a quick peak at some of these moments but check out his blog to see the full posting!

Today we’re sharing another beautiful wedding from October, 2011. Cristina and Pedro’s wedding was the perfect fairytale all girls dream of complete with a horse drawn carriage! When we first spoke with Cristina back at the beginning of September, they were making the last minute decision to hire a videographer and we are so happy to have been included. It was a lot of fun working with Cristina and Pedro and being able to capture all of the special moments shared between the couple and their family and friends.

Megan and Laura, Events In The City, planned this flawless wedding day and are always a great team to work with! The couple wed at St. Leo Church and the Reception was held at Morais Vineyards (What a gorgeous location for a fall wedding!). The talented creative team included Brookhill Florist, Columbus Grill Catering, DC Rental, DJ Ricky Fernandez, Chariots for Hire, Atmosphere Lighting, Elegant Hair by Giselle, and Faces by SAM.

Kristi Odom photographed not only Cristina & Pedro’s wedding but also their engagement session in Old Town, Alexandria….and it is probably one of my favorite Old Town engagement sessions! Kristi does an amazing job capturing their personalities as a couple and is such a talented photographer. Definitely check out her blog here to see images from the entire engagement session.

Not only does this couple look great together but watching Jeremy see his lovely bride for the first time is enough to make anyone giddy with excitement. The couple was surrounded by family and friends whose toasts proved just how perfect they are together and how special of a celebration this was for everyone. Their gorgeous day was planned by the EVOKE team and took place at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The creative team included-Occasions Caterers, Edge Floral Event Designers, Elegant Hair By Giselle and Make up by Leah McKay. It is obvious why this time of year has been labeled “engagement season”..What could be more perfect then popping the question during such a festive time surrounded by family and friends? For those of you who are recently engaged, congratulations. This is such an exciting time for you and your family-enjoy and celebrate every moment!

In honor of engagement season I thought it would be fitting to share “Love Story” videos. Engagement videos are becoming more common as a fun way for couples to share their love story and capture the special moments of excitement before their wedding. Similar to engagement photo sessions, videos are a unique way to announce your wedding day and express your personalities as a couple.

Despite the rainy weather on October 1, Diana and Ghanem’s Spanish themed wedding day was nothing short of gorgeous. The couple worked with Table 6 Productions and  Jackson Durham Flowers and Events LLC to transform The Congressional Country Club into the most lavish and romantic space. I especially love Diana and Ghanem’s song choice for their video, “Have You Ever Really Loved A Women” Bryan Adams…you can’t help but be swept up into the magic of this video and their wedding day!

Recently, local vineyards and wineries have become one of my favorite venues…and the wedding of Chelsea and Nick on September 24 at Potomac Point Winery is a perfect example of why! Chelsea’s family actually owns this vineyard so it was a no brainer location to host their reception. The couple decided the theme of their wedding would be “Wine, Love & Ice Cream” because the combination perfectly described their relationship. “The beautiful ballroom, stunning view of rolling vineyards and the sheer love that went into building the winery and vineyard; we knew there was no better place to celebrate our wedding”. Chelsea explained the ice cream theme came up because she’s always LOVED Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Nick actually proposed with a personalized pint flavored, “Will You Marry Me”.

From that point it was easy for the other details to fall into place.. Chelsea’s love for pastel colors tied in perfectly with the ice cream theme and the couple (with help from their family of course) crafted special homemade items to add personal details throughout the day. These personalized touches include: wine bottle labels with Ben & Jerry flavors as table names, Nick built the ice cream stand, signs painted by Chelsea’s grandmother and bridesmaid, an over sized wine bottle etched with the B & G’s names and wedding date for guests to sign and Potomac Point Winery corks mixed into the boutonnieres.

From the bride,
“Nick and I knew that we wanted everyone to have a great time at the reception. We had our customized corn hole available for guests to play during cocktail hour & the photo booth “on a budget” for guests to utilize. Once dinner was finished, we honored my parent’s anniversary with a dance to their wedding song & the party began! We danced all night, only stopping for the ice cream bar, and ended with my family’s traditional bridal dance. We truly had the wedding of our dreams and one day we want to do it all over again!”

The talented vendor team that contributed to Chelsea and Nick’s dream wedding included,
Ceremony: Aquia Episcopal Church
Cocktail & Reception: Potomac Point Winery
Photography: Genevieve Leiper
Flowers: Holly Heider Chapple
Catering & Ice Cream Bar: Le Grand Cru (In-house at Potomac Point Winery)
DJ: Chris Laich
Stationary: Fingers In Ink
Makeup: Carl Ray, Four Season Salon Georgetown
Hair: Erika Bergsagel, Frizzles Hair Salon
Wedding Gown: Alvina Valenta
Bridesmaid Dresses: Cynthia Rowley
Cake & Cake Pops: Sweet Creations Cakes
Transportation: Prime Transportation

This fall, I had the pleasure of being a part of the Greater DC Chapter NACE (National Association of Catering Executives) annual fund raising Gala.  For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, each year NACE hosts their Capital Style Gala and partners with a local charity.  This year, “NACE Salutes the 1940s: Heroes to Hollywood” was in support of Operation USO Care Package which is based in Fort Belvoir, Va.  Not only did the Gala raise money for this fantastic charity but NACE members and local volunteers all met at the OUCP headquarters for a Stuffing Party.  Check out the video below to learn more about this charity and see the DC NACE Chapter’s contributions.

For photography from this stuffing party go to Michael Bennett Kress Photography’s blog here

The Capital Style Gala, “NACE Salutes the 1940s: Heroes to Hollywood” took place last Sunday, November 6. and was a huge success!  The Hotel Monaco was transformed into a luxurious 1940s/patriotic themed evening celebrating our U.S. military heroes and the achievements of our local event industry.  To see the images by Geoff Chesman Visuals and Eli Turner Studios of this amazing event visit The Capital Style Gala facebook page…coming soon!
