Frequently Asked Questions
ASK, Thomas Bowen Films
1. What is your coverage style?
At Thomas Bowen Films we take pride in our signature photojournalist style. You’ll notice when watching our highlight films that you rarely see anyone looking or speaking directly into the camera. Our coverage style focuses on not engaging our clients and their guests but instead we unobtrusively capture the spirit of the day.
-Do you offer different Highlight Film styles?
Yes, we offer a documentary style film and a cinematic experience film. The difference is in large part due to the infusion of the DSLR camera which is included in our 8 hour and Unlimited packages and is explained in further detail below. Our hourly packages let you build the customizable package you want with a more traditional video style not using this DSLR camera.
2. Will I be able to meet my filmmaker?
Yes, you will have the opportunity to meet with your filmmaker prior to your event date to discuss the details. To ensure continuity of your filming and final product, your filmmaker will also be your editor.
3. What is the difference between 1 filmmaker and 2 filmmaker coverage?
Two filmmakers offer the benefit of being able to capture a broader range of elements on your wedding day. With two cameras you’re able to film the getting ready time with both the bride and the groom. During the ceremony and reception, filming from two different locations simultaneously allows the filmmakers to capture not only your special moments but the reactions of your loved ones throughout the entire day.
4. Do you shoot in HD?
We do shoot in HD and our film crews are always prepared with multiple backup sets of primary equipment i.e. cameras, batteries, media cards, etc.
5. What is a DSLR 35mm DSLR camera? What is the benefit?
The progression of high end event coverage is being lead by the advances of (DSLR) and the techniques associated with making films that look and feel like a cinematic experience. Some of the techniques include steady cam, sliding rail moves and boom cranes. The advantages of using a DSLR are,
- Image Quality: DSLRs have much larger image sensors than video camcorders. This result is a much more film-like image due to the shallower depth of field.
- More sensitive to light: Allows us to get a cleaner image in dim lighting conditions. Performance in low light is far superior to any other video camera.
- Interchangeable lenses: Gives us the same flexibility as photographer. For example, when you watch the video examples you’ll see parts where the camera is focused in on the couple or something in the foreground while the background is then blurred out. This is all due to the use of a different lens.
Thomas Bowen Films was the first Washington, DC video company using this industry leading approach. You can see the creative differences this camera technique offers in our Trilliant Bliss and True Brilliance packages.
6. What is the deposit requirement? What types of payment do you accept?
We require a 40% deposit at the time of booking with the final payment due on or before the day of the event. Our entire booking process is paperless and secure, we provide you with a client pass code to your portal where you are able to make payments, update event details and complete a questionnaire which outlines the specifics of your event.
8. When will I receive my finished product?
We estimate our completion date to be two months from the date of the event date providing we have all the necessary materials from the client (i.e. invitation, music selection, etc.)
